Hi again, yes I used the mythcontrolcentre to enable mysql.. but it 
hasnt helped much. Maybe the alternate cd is my issue.. i should try the 
desktop one perhaps. The roles i selected were done during the install 
but yes you are right, you can do them in the control centre. i figured 
that if you installed it as a backend during the build it would load 
mysql for you though!
