I haven't used the alternate cd, but in the mythbuntu 8.04 desktop cd
there is mythcontrolcentre (I think it's called) that allows you to
specify what role your box is to play, master backend, slave backend,
frontend etc. Of you choose master backend it should install mysql.
I must say I haven't particularly enjoyed mythbuntu, and I am looking
forward to knoppmyth R5.5.
