Please excuse the self reply, here's some stats from my main box that may be
of interest;
hads at frog:~$ mythstatus
Tuner 1 is currently recording 'C4's Biggest Records...Right N' on
channel 'C4'
Tuner 5 is currently recording 'France 2 Le Journal' on channel 'Stratos'
Tuner 6 is currently recording 'Entertainment Tonight' on channel 'TV 3'
Tuner 7 is currently watching 'Entertainment Tonight' live on channel 'TV 3'
Tuner 8 is currently recording 'Party Animals' on channel 'TVNZ6'
Tuner 9 is currently recording 'The Young And The Restless' on channel 'One'
Tuner 10 is currently recording 'Everwood' on channel 'TV 2'
Tuner 1 is an IVTV card, tuners 5/6/7 and 8/9/10 are Technotrend DVB-S cards.
I've given the DVB cards a limit of 3 concurrent recordings as that seems to
suit our current number of channels.

As you can see mythbackend is using 14% CPU (Intel E6300), the load average is
highish due to the disk IO.

There's one LiveTV recording which is using the LiveTV storage group on sda
and the other 6 recordings are using the main storage group on sdb.
No issues here so far.
