Ross,
Have you enabled the on-board Low Noise Amplifier (LNA)?
Directly from the Nova T 500 wiki:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options
/Add:/ options dvb-usb-dib0700 force_lna_activation=1
Adding that line at the bottom turns on the amplifier, and will
hopefully fix your reception problems.
Let us know how you go with H.264 playback!
