Bingo!!
Now I understand (mostly!!).
I had created the power search on the frontend and MythWeb wasn't finding
it at all as I'd used it as a search only tool and selected a recording
based on the result of the search, not on the search method itself.
Having redone the whole thing in MythWeb it makes sense (and I can get to
edit the rule now).
I've just tried an SSL/VNC connect into my frontend and the edit box
allows me to scroll round to the new rule so I can edit it there as well.
Looks like there is some inconsistency within the frontend when a rule is
created and saved as a search rather than being applied directly by
pressing the 'Record' button on the custom search page.
