Hello,
I've just built my first proper media centre. I've installed MythTV on
Ubuntu feisty. It's been a fascinating project; probably easier than I
expected. I've been playing with Linux for several years and finally plucked
up the courage to do the job properly by buying some decent gear while I've
been on holiday at home.
Hardware: Asus M2NPV-VM Motherboard; CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ CPU, 3.0GHz;
2Gb RAM, 80Gb SATA drive; Case: Silverstone SST-LC13 ATX Home Theatre Case.
(Hard drive is a bit small already, but it was a spare I had lying around.)
Tuner is a Hauppauge PVR 150.
Most things are working. I've had a few dramas, but the solution each time
has been annoyingly simple, even when it took several days to find. (Isn't
that always the way?). I might need some help with the IR receiver and
remote that came with the PVR Card. And if there is a good EPG somewhere,
I'd love to get it (even if it meant forking out some money?)
About me: 46 y/o, company exec, long-time interest in PC's (started Word
processing & spread sheeting on a Commodore 64 some time in the early 80's
and sent my first email in 1992) but fundamentally still a noob in the Linux
world.
Any other members around Rangiora or Christchurch?
Cheers
- David Lowe
