Trust me no such thing as a silly suggestion ... unfortunately I have
tried the DB maintenance regime and it hasn't helped (well not with this
particular issue).

I am beginning to lean more to the fact that I may have a dish issue
more than anything else, thanks to the help of users on the FreeView
list (especially Steven), I have tried using dvbtune to help isolate the
issue, but apart from the results, I am not (yet) knowledgeable to come
to a solution path.  I have pasted what I got out of dvb tune below in
the hope that someone can maybe push me a bit closer to actually
isolating the problem.

Please bear in mind I have never used dbvtune before, so hopefully I am
using the right options

dvbtune -c 0 -f 1706000 -p H -tone 0 -s 22500 -m

Using DVB card "ST STV0299 DVB-S"
tuning DVB-S to L-Band:0, Pol:H Srate=22500000, 22kHz=off
