Run up alsamixer (its a console app) and mute the line in on the play
screen and enable it on the record screen. That should set it as the
capture device which is what MythTV records alongside the video stream to
make the recording (LiveTV just plays a recording back immediately and
then expires it very quickly).
It might be worth experimenting with arecord and aplay (part of the alsa
package) outside of MythTV to see what has to be twiddled to set the line
in as the capture device.
