Thanks guys, I may be getting closer.
The -tone 0 removed the error but didn't help it to lock onto a signal.
I noticed that L-Band:8 difference as well (compared to pvr.geek.nz web site
help). Does anybody know what this means?
I tried the sky signal and that locked on
[mythtv@server dvbtune-0.5]$ ./dvbtune -c 1 -f 1171000 -s 22500 -p v -m
Using DVB card "ST STV0299 DVB-S"

My next thought was that my LNB couldn't switch to horizontal but using -p h
on the sky multiplex cause my not to lock on. So -p h does something.
Notice I get the L-Band:0 on the sky multiplex.

A couple of days ago my skystar2 mythtv feed stopped. Until then I had it

Now dvbtune gives me this.

Using DVB card "ST STV0299 DVB-S"

Mine is working still. When I tune I get "tuning DVB-S to L-Band:8" not
L-Band:0. Not sure what the significance of that is.
A while back Hadley Rich mentioned that dvbtune has a "tone" argument. You
can get rid of the "ERROR setting tone" message by including "-tone 0" on
the command line. That fixed an issue he had with Sky not tuning while his
SkyStar 2 was connected. It's never made any difference to me, but might be
worth a try.
Have you tried other multiplexes? Testing against Sky's 12671v multiplex
(which has One and 2 unencrypted) might reveal something.
I assume it has been working for you since TVNZ's switch to H polarity?
Cheers,
Steve
