Yes, it can break your keyboard but only the s key on mine (you could
just not map the stop button on the remote and use an alternative key if
this is an issue).
You should be able to work it so that it only maps your keyboard for
Mythtv and doesn't affect other apps (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I don't have a keyboard plugged in so it isn't an issue. 

nb 0.19 has a very nice virtual keyboard for typing things into myth
that you can navigate with the remote.

I heard that the shuttle needs to to change the keyboard map for it to
work in a sane way. This then breaks you using the keyboard.
