I've done a cabaret at a couple of 'Party Weekenders' recently and had a
great time. Talking to other South-Coast dancers I've been surprised at =
how
little known these weekends are. The weekend format is more fun and =
family
oriented than Camber. There are still plenty of lessons for jivers,
Lindi-Hoppers, Swingers, double-troublers, etc. =20
=20
The main difference is that the emphasis in on fun and you can take your
non-dancing kids (although they don't seem to get in the way of the =
dancing
for those dancers who don't bring children). I took my non-dancing
daughters and they loved it (although one of them did break her arm =
doing
cartwheels on some wet grass!!). At Warmwell near Weymouth (which took =
me 2
hours 15 mins to get to from Shoreham on a busy Friday night) there's a
great pool with water slide, roller-skating, cycling, pool, fishing, etc =
-
and amazingly, a dry-ski slope! And on the entertainment side the early
evening entertainment includes Karaoke, fancy dress and talent contests =
-
which are well supported and done in a fun way - the prizes seem =
incidental
to the fun of the event. There's also a dance with a stranger =
competition -
my partner and I came second, clear evidence that anyone could win! =20
=20
After the more light-hearted early evening entertainment the dancing =
really
starts and each night they have at least one band like the Alabama =
Slammers.
And the log cabins are much better than Camber and brilliant for parties
with enough room to dance (once you've put the sofa on the outside =
decking) -
I slept 2 hours the first night, 5 hours the second and didn't go to bed =
at
all on the last night!
=20
The good news is that I've persuaded Darren (who runs the weekends) to =
give
us South Coast dancers a special introductory rate so we can try it out =
on
the weekend starting Friday 1st November 2002. The lodge cabins prices
start at =A379 per person for the Warmwell Weekend (Based on 6 poeple
sharing). Darren has promised me that the first 24 people/4 cabins =
booked
asking for the special "South Coast dancers rate" can come for =A3 50 =
each!=20
=20
Of course Darren is not doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He
expects us to come back and pay the full price, spread the word and drag =
our
friends along too...
=20
