From paul.simons@philips.com Wed Oct 3 16:12:09 2001 From: paul.simons@philips.com (paul.simons@philips.com) Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 16:12:09 +0100 Subject: [Mad4dance]Mad4Dance List Message-ID: Hi folks Just a couple of recommendations this week. There's a straight choice between Katy's excellent Rebel Roc in Woking and Graham's Brighton Le Roc. The people that attend Broadbridge Heath regularly will be interested to hear that a wave of new Philips and St Paul dancers will be headed down to Horsham tonight for the first time - so that will keep you busy Phil G. A quick word about the angry man from last weeks list - he turned out to be the husband of a dancer and was demanding to be unsubscribed. I'm sure you'll be delighted to hear that we eventually managed to extract him. I certaintly am. Please note that there is no Ceroc at the Fairfield Halls next Tuesday, 9th October. This week's recommendations are: Saturday 6th October **Rebel Roc, HG Wells, Church St. East, Woking -- Large modern venue, idea for dancing **Le Roc, King Alfred Ballroom, Kingsway, Hove, Sussex -- older venue with many experienced dancers As ever, please make your own dance suggestion to the list by sending them to m4d-list@mad4dance.org. I don't think it helped though that the venues that they used were school halls, so they didn't have a bar. The civic hall does have a bar, but I have heard it is an expensive venue to use. So good luck to it, hope to get along sometime (work permitting). But perhaps someone who does go Friday night could tell us what it was like. Apparently she held a busking session in the County Mall on Saturday (which I would have advertised had I known). But we wish her all the best, Crawley has a huge catchment area and is sure to do well! Besides Crawley there's loads to choose from including the Blue Dahlia which comes highly recommended from DavidW and others keen on 1940's dress and swing music. For those that have forgotten the Orpington Ceroc will be at Bromley tonight (Wednesday)! Dave Stanton will take over the list for the next couple of weeks while I get some sun. I'm sure you enjoy his friendly banter, but try to resist his urges to convert you to east coast swing! This week's recommendations are: Friday 19th October **Blue Dahlia, The Polish White Eagle Club, Hamilton house, Balham high street -- 1940's dress, much celebrated swing venue -- Davidw and friends will be there http://www.swingtime.co.uk/Reviews/clubs/Bluedahl.html *LeRoc, Fairland Flg Centre, off Aldershot Rd. Guildford -- small friendly venue *Rebel Roc, Civic Hall, The Boulevard, Crawley, Susssex -- new venue for Katy's increasing successful Rebel Roc Saturday 20th October **Rivoli Ballroom. 350 Brockley Rd, Crofton Park, London SE4 - Great old fashioned ballroom venue which attracts experienced dancers from Jive, Swing and Lindy **Dance 2000, The David Lloyd Centre, Brighton Village Marina, Brighton -- Great modern venue, with 2 dance floors ** Evolution Dance, The Steyning Centre, Brighton -- popular oufit, but venue unknown venue to me As ever, please make your own dance suggestion to the list by sending them to m4d-list@mad4dance.org. As for sharp dudes there was one French character hiding most of the evening behind shades and another well known strutting his stuff in a slick zoot suit. The girls as always were gorgeous. Some v good dancers so some great dancing and entertaining to watch when you needed to cool down. The venue attracts swingers so to speak and some lindy hoppers but also appeals to adventurous jivers. The atmosphere is superb, as they make you feel welcome, someone remarked "its a little like a party in their home". The Rev Boogie has a chat with folks and usually entertains sometime during the evening with his dancing and can he dance!! Highly recommended for an enjoyable evening.
