[chbot] Tronxy X5SA PRO 3D Printer - any good?

The biggest thing about 3d printers is support. They aren’t the easiest things to get to function well, or often function. I chose a Da Vinci 1.0, pretty basic, but for general use 3D printing you’ll be after it for a bit of play, bit of prototyping, custom cases, toys for the kids (although it’s an expensive way to generate toys) and it’s good enough for the above… with a bit of sanding.

On the DaVinci I’ve been though a power supply, an extruder head, and had to rewire the extruder filament sensor. Again, you need something that you can order parts, or have the network to be able to find other parts that will fit / diagnose issues with.

I also bought a cheap Chinese 3d printer with a bigger bed, unfortunately the bed was impossible to level, when I got things stuck to the bed it ended up delaminating it. The stepper motors are now part of a project to mechanise my telescope and I’ve switched back to my Da Vinci.

Were I to buy Chinese again, I’d buy a prusa rep. At least this means that you’ll have the support of a community.

I’m a firm believer in a cabinet for two reasons. Even PLA will give you a headache, ABS is worse! I find that it gives a more stable room temperature, and as such gives a better end print result (my layman observation).

Daniel.

While my knowledge of 3d printers is very low, I think the biggest issue is this:

* What do you want to do? What do you want to achieve? How pretty do you want the prints to look?

Some 3D prints I have seen can be weak and can be quite ratty. However depending on what you want/expect this might or might not be acceptable.

this one caught my eye on AliExpress.

It seems to tick all the boxes but since I am no judge of these things I
thought it best to ask those who know better!

Cheers
