Make an inline USB adapter, microUSB male/female, containing a schottky
diode. Feed 5V externally as it is. Hang everyone connecting USB
directly...

Are there short micro USB extension cables? Slice into that, cut the 5V
cable and insert a schottky. Rigid adapters plugged into devices are a
dicey mechanical proposition.

As Andrew astutely observed, all goes on 3.3V so schottky drops
shouldn't be relevant.
