Get the "Kiwicare No Rats & Mice Rodent Control Weatherproof Bait Block" from countdown.

4 in the pack.

Put one in that ceiling area and if they're hungry the mice will find it, and you will see the evidence.

A side effect of them eating it is they get really thirsty so head outside looking for water so no smelly carcasses in the roof space.

If they do show signs of eating it, once they're gone, keep a clean cake there as you can then check regularly to see if any more have shown up.

I have one sitting just inside my container as an early warning in case it becomes not rodent proof.
