[chbot] Personal Laser Cutter

I am looking at buying this unit
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-60W-new-linear-guide-4060-co2-
laser-engraving-machine-220v-100v-laser-cutting-machine/32792467327.html?spm
=2114.13010308.0.0.mz9Gqr

I'm going with 80W as I want to be able to cut 12mm Ply and would be nice to
do same thickness MDF. I know the density of the wood being cut has an
effect on power required. From peoples experience would 80W easily cut this
thickness?
Also bring this unit in I assume the only other cost would be GST that
customs may add if they want. What are people experience bring in
machinery...have you been changed GST or anything else?

Nice to hear about Sheetcam software. Was looking at using Vcarve as wanted
to use it also on my CNC router (presently I use Sketchucam). I use Arduino
running GRBL with a cnc shield for control on my CNC Router and was going to
possibly convert the laser cutter to one of those too. I heard the
controller that comes with these laser machines are not the best.

Any comments or thought from anyone appreciated.

Cheers
Jody

I found a great program for doing cutter paths. Sheetcam. Inexpensive,
active forum and it just works. Pounds 110. I use it most weeks and have
been using it for 6 or so years. Even does milling cutters, nesting and
drills etc.
Creates G code with many different post processors to choose from.

On the other hand, I won a 3D printer UP BOX + by going to the SouthMech
show.
275x220x220 printing envelope. If I can find paying work for it I will keep
it but at this point I have enough other projects for the next 3 years. In 3
years time I have projects for 8 years. So if I get a reasonable offer, I
will probably sell it. I think the RRP is $3200.
