Hi everybody,
I was glad to receive my confirmation as a AYRS suscriber, since I believe
that yachting science improvement means cooperation.
My field of interest is design research.
I am working in new designs (sailboats) that use modern materials, and
techniques, but both their aesthetics and some of the building methods used
are very traditional. I am experimenting with lapstrake planking for
example, using plywood-epoxy-fiberglass, to radiused chine hulls.
The idea is to obtain nice, personal, light, stiff, sure and affordable
boats, for those who like classic lines, but hate their lack of comfort, and
laborious maintenance. Trying to combine old and new is not easy, and has
not always been achieved successfully. So there is a lot of work to do.
Rig is another field for research. Modern rigs are nice and efficient, but
very expensive, costing sometimes 50% of the entire boat. In the past, there
were very practical solutions that are still usefull.
I believe that building boats is part of the fun, so I prefer solutions
that, not being elemental or rudimentary, are possible for the average
amateur builder.
I expect to be in the web again soon, and then I will comunicate you the
address, so we can discuss about my work.
Thank you very much
