What does make it work is stopping the backend either by starting mythbackend set up<br>
and exiting immediately or by issuing sudo killall mythbackend ,then starting<br>

</div></div></blockquote><div><br><br>No the frontend wrapper does not start the backend, unless something very radical has changed in mythbuntu. Indeed the user who runs mythfrontend does not have permission to start and stop services without using sudo and the usual password.<br>
