I have an Nvidia 7200 video card on my desktop system which doesn't do h.264 decode. So I am reliant on the software decode. I would say my recordings/livetv pauses every 5 seconds or so making it unwatchable.

Anyway doesn't an Nvidia video card that is capable of h.264 decode do the job without chewing cpu. I am waiting to upgrade my TV to upgrade my video card. Admittedly upgrading video card on a laptop is not doable.

> quick query, i have a laptop with a dual-core T7500 CPU that I would like to use as a frontend. It has an Intel X3100 graphics card, which won't help with H.264, so its purely software decoding.

With a 2.2Ghz C2D, you're maybe 600-800Mhz off the pace? My current
notebook has a C2D T9900 (3.06Ghz) and it only just cuts it for
software-only decode. And it gets *hot* doing so.
