know whether my experiences are the same as everyone else. I find that now that
I have adopted the “new paradigm” I actually watch less TV. Before, I would
watch a program because “that’s when it’s on”, however now I might go and do
something else. Make the kids lunch, do the dishes, read a book – whatever;
just because I know I can watch the program later. Half the time, I end up
deleting the program because I’m just never in the mood to watch it. Less TV
has got to be a good thing.

Before MythTV I finding I was watching less because it wasn't always convenient to watch programs when they were on but recording (VCR) was too error-prone and annoying. The advertising was definitely turning me off as well. I suspect that there are more quality programs around now than there were 5-10 years ago as well (though there is still plenty of crap of course).

There's definitely nothing wrong with watching less TV though!

the mood for watching some mindless TV, ads and all. I still get the urge to
watch Live TV – either when I’m not in the mood to watch anything else, or when
I only have 30 minutes to spare and I don’t want to start anything.

Why watch some random thing on Live TV instead of something you've recorded? We record a bunch of stuff specifically for this purpose - stuff which is mildly interesting but not requiring complete attention. We watch it when we just want something on in the background or just want something mindless.

It seems weird to me that you record stuff that you presumably have some interest in and then end up deleting it, and yet you still watch live TV when you want something mindless - wouldn't it make more sense to keep the stuff you thought you might like and then watch that when you don't feel like anything else?
