I have a similar problem except it was a new install on a new machine with the 185 drivers (which were then downed to 180), initially I thought it was the TV card setup at fault but after reading someone else's post I setup several recordings and watched them using VLC. Interesting I can often watch TV2 without a problem in mythtv. The choice of having VDPAU selected or not in mythtv playback options doesn't seem to make any difference. Has anyone who's experienced this gone back to 185 and had it cleared up? Is it a simple matter of adding testing to Jean-Yves's repository and redoing the upgrade steps? <BR>

Also, does anyone reading know if it's possible to set anything that will slow down the video card fan speed of a nvidia 9600GT (Geforce card I think from memory) as it's pretty noisy?<BR>

Update Manager keeps offering upgrades but says it can only perform a
partial upgrade:

So it looks like synaptic is wanting to update everything including what
update manager isn't willing to (libmyth and mplayer) but its trying to
revert the vdpau and nvidia driver to version 180! Looking in Synaptic
it wants to convert from version
1:0.21.0+fixes-20674-openglvdpau-0ubuntu0 to
1:0.21.0+fixes-20674-openglvdpau-0ubuntu3 for each of the changes.

I'd like to stay using v185 of the nvidia driver but if the version of
myth in JYAs release repository is not compatible with this driver
should I switch to using the testing repository?

185.x has been very unstable for me and others ; my machine keeps freezing.
so I put back 180.x in the release directory ; you'll have to follow
those instructions

It's very simple. Same procedure as upgrading from 180.x to 185.x..
If you use testing, you'll find the same packages but build for 185.xx
