<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">Over the weekend my fear of incurring the wrath of wife and family from a broken Myth system was overcome and I installed the VDPAU patches version of Myth from Jean-Yves' repository. Here are the results so far:</p>
<p style="-qt-paragraph-type:empty; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;"></p>
<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">System: Mythbuntu 8.10, Intel E2180 (2 core, 2Ghz), 4GB ram, nVidia GeForce 8600GT Silent, HVR-1200 DVB-T card, HDMI out to 1366 x 766 native LCD, and 1280 x 720 native projector. Using 180.44 video drivers.</p>
<p style="-qt-paragraph-type:empty; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;"></p>
<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">On all resolutions, except 1080i, playback seems pretty solid. I get the very occasional flicker or audio pause, more so with 720p. 1080i however is not so solid - regular audio drop-outs and sync errors, moderately regular video stutters. Typical log message is "2009-04-06 10:53:56.742 Audio -97 ms behind video but already 75 video frames queued. AV-Sync might be broken." I have "Aggresive sound card buffering" unchecked and "Extra audio buffering" checked.</p>
<p style="-qt-paragraph-type:empty; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;"></p>
<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">It's almost there, but not quite. CPU usage does not click over 10% at any time. There is a bit of stutter when first switching to the HD input, which coincides with disk I/O maxing out for a second, then everything settles down.</p>
<p style="-qt-paragraph-type:empty; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;"></p>
<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">I left it running for three hours on the Freeview Ch 100 and video playback never stopped, however mythfrontend stopped responding. Have also had a couple of occasions when dropping out of live TV that mythfrontend is still running but the menu widgets stop getting drawn.</p>
<p style="-qt-paragraph-type:empty; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;"></p>
<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">Looking really positive, but not quite there yet.</p></body></html>
