<pre wrap="">The goss seems to be that if you are using vdpau then the PCI bus is
more than sufficient for the task, because you are pushing the
compressed video stream to the card.
Bluray disk movies have a max bitrate of 54Mbits/sec
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluray">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluray</a>). Most HiDef stuff you get will
have a lower rate.
PCI has a max rate of 133MBytes/sec
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Local_Bus">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Local_Bus</a>) )note 133 M /BYTES/ vs 54
M /BITS/.
Even with real PCI rates being half the maximum there is still plenty
of room to push the video stream over PCI to the graphics card, by a
factor of more than 10.
If you don't believe me there are plenty of examples of people having
very good results with PCI and vdpau.
Cheers.

<pre wrap="">I suspect that you will not find any as I note the bandwidth of the old PCI
bus may not be sufficient to transfer all the data to the required NVIDIA
graphics card in a timely manner...
You may be far better to wait for the NVIDIA ION platform to generate a real
product for a (diskless) mythtv frontend.
Cheers

<pre wrap="">Having failed to find easy access to a PCI vdpau capable video card in
NZ I though an alternative might be to find a mini-itx sized vdpau
compatible motherboard, ie with onboard nVidia graphics.
Rather than spend more hours searching for the grail, can anyone point
out such a motherboard from a NZ retailer (online or in ChCh).
Frontend only so provided it has the requisite video card onboard
there is no need for any PCI[e] slots.
I will be connecting it to a flat panel 720p TV with VGA or HDMI. HDMI
with sound out would be nice but not essential.

The wholesalers in NZ sell the Intel Atom Processor Motherboards
(D945GCLF) at a reasonable cost.
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945GCLF2-D945GCLF2D/D945GCLF2-D945GCLF2D-overview.htm">http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945GCLF2-D945GCLF2D/D945GCLF2-D945GCLF2D-overview.htm</a>
Anyone who gets stuff from Tech Pacific/Ingram Micro should be able to
get them.
Then you have to find a PCI vdpau card... I would love if someone knew
what would work. I cannot find one myself.
Thanks
