Actually I lie, I had forgotten that I had installed the latest version of the intel drivers direct from their website (version 2.5.99). I thought I had tested it as working as I had restarted X and everything was fine. I had forgotten that the build of the drivers installs kernel modules which requires a re-start to run the new ones ..... doh ...

Also my CPU++ profile was using XVMC so it looks like XVMC above 720x568 doesn't work with these latest drivers.

I had upgraded to the latest drivers, because I wanted to see if support had been added to use the hardware h.264 decoding ..... but it hasn't yet, supposably it is happening any day.

Thanks for all your help.
Bernie

On Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 9:04 PM, Bernard Mentink <bmentink@gmail.com> wrote:
frames less than 720x568 in size. For larger frames, xvmc
appears to
work, but the picture is a bright monochrome green, like night vision

But for that to happen you would have had to recompile the Intel driver for xvmc, which I'm assuming you haven't done.

Only other thing I can think to try is booting off a Live CD and see if it happens, compare the driver and try to down/upgrade to that version.

Hi Bernie,

If you're still running the 173 drivers this sounds like maybe it's related to the problem you're having:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173/+bug/199975

I'm running 177 on a 9600GT without any problems, maybe give the new drivers a try if you can.

Another thing to try is checking your hue:

$ sudo apt-get install xvattr
$ xvattr -a XV_HUE
Found Xv 2.2
XV_HUE = 0

if that returns anything other than 0, try doing the following command and it should set it to zero:

$ xvattr -a XV_HUE -v 0
Are you running the latest nvidia binary drivers or the open source drivers? If you're running the nvidia drivers try changing to a different version to see if that makes a difference:

System -> Hardware Drivers - select a nvidia driver and hit either activate

It sounds like there's a problem with the overlay rendering which is used to accelerate the video rendering. To confirm it you could try running Xine and setting the video output to X11, that'll turn off any acceleration.

Hi All,

I have been running Mythbuntu quite successfully for some time, however the last time I re-booted the machine, I have found that whenever I play a recording or watch LiveTV all I get is a green screen, I can see the program content ... it just all green.

(There may have been some recent updates ... and this is the 1st time I have re-booted since ..)

It doesn't seem to be Xorg, the Plasma, or the nVidia driver as I can use it fine as a normal computer in full color, it is only when I am using Mythtv for recordings (that previously were fine in full color) or LiveTV that I get the issue.

It seems the video decoding is broken for some reason.

Can anyone tell me what to do to resolve this? This is urgent for me, as the family rely on this system now (read ... I am dead meat ..)

Cheers,
Bernie
