I have an old Pinnacle Dazzle PCTV USB that I used for capturing video. Its been gathering dust for a couple of years because it wasn't supported in Linux. So I fired up this package and hey presto it burst into life using XawTV. Amazing.

Maybe a silly question but if I install these drivers on Ubuntu 7.10 (my MythTV box) will I break anything? I'm running kernel 2.6.22 so I figure it should all be fine.

- D

On Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 12:50 AM, Nick Rout <nick.rout@gmail.com> wrote:

I remember seeing a while ago that someone was packaging very up to date versions of v4l/dvb drivers for ubuntu, with a nice repo and everything. In fact I may have even posted about it myself. Now I can't remember where I saw it or find the b****y post I was thinking of.

(I have a Pinnacle 73e USB device that I read will work with the newer DVB drivers. I also know that none of my machines will decode the streams, but I have to start somewhere. The device was on special do I grabbed one, figuring I could 'trademe' it if it doesn't work on linux).

It seems to be close to tuning in kaffeine too. Using the supplied indoor aerial you could see the strength going up to 14 to 17 % but never locked to a station. Could be the concrete block flats i live in. I'll try it in the park with no real obstructions to sugarloaf and see what I get. Good thing I got a new battery for the lappie a couple of weeks ago.
