Hi All,

I know lirc has been discussed a million times by now, but I can't find much information about the problem i'm having now. I'm running suse 10.3 and have the option of using a serial device (which I've previously had running under 10.2), or a Nova-S 500 which I have recently installed.

I have a slight preference for the serial option as I'm note dependent on a capture card.

So I've been trying to get anything out of mode2, irw or irrecord but it just does not seem to work at all. First of all, when I start the lirc daemon it binds to /dev/input/ir, which is a bit unexpected, as I expect /dev/lirc ? But might be a new in 10.3 thing I thought so I just kept on trying

No luck at all, so I looked at /var/log messages and this is what came up. the lirc_serial module did not actually load, but I have not managed to get any more info on the fault. Has anyone seen this before?

May 13 22:12:19 innopvr kernel: kobject_add failed for lirc_serial.0 with -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same directory.
