Unfortunately neither of those plans work for me. I'm get nothing when
I press buttons on the remote (I have checked the batteries :-)). I'm
guessing that its because the IR reciever isn't working ???<br>

That website is too much like hard work.
KnoppMyth has a page in it's graphical setup. Load mythfrontend, business
as usual, then go to Utilities/Setup, then Edit Keys. No lirc setup is
required at all, and no hardware hacking.
That page is far more user friendly and intuitive than the process the
website you linked describes.
