I literally just had this happen to me as well yesterday; Acer Revo 1600, Ion1 What I needed to do was to add the graphics PPA, and install nvidia-340. I had been using 304, and something in one of the 304 updates broke acceleration - the initial frame would come, there would be a 5 second pause, 1 second of video, etc.
