tl;dr A fresh install of 14.04 was a breeze with just a little bit of
specialised knowledge and it found scheduling information for week with
just EiT(? What ever FreeView transmits).

I am a grumpy old man sometimes, and I have been quick to find fault
with MythTV - its complexity and fragility.

Over the last two days, as part of my programme to to get a MythTV
system that actually works I installed MythBuntu 14.04 on a cheap second
hand computer (using SATA II) as a dedicated back end and the front end
on a little acer Veriton (I bought from some one on this list - thank you).

Wow! It was painless and very effective!

What is really exciting is all the scheduling information for every
channel is getting pulled in, from some where. I have not installed
tv_grab_nz-py.

One reason it went so well is I new how to tell the back end about my
tuners and I new where to find the MySQL password on the backend to give
it to the front end. So Myth is still a little way from being a
"consumer appliance" but it is close.

After my sad adventures in using an Intel NuPC and a NFS NAS which was
disastrous (I actually suspect the NAS is a PoS - I would love to hear
of some one who has had success using NFS mounted drives) I am a happy
camper today.

I still have to move the discs from the NAS to my new (albeit second
hand) box which may well become a world of pain, but I am going to let
this one full up first to see how it copes as disc space runs low.
