Not particulary tech friendly wife who is happy to use the system, although
I do all the recording scheduling etc.

Are you looking at freeview or sky or both? freeview is easy, sky a bit
harder because you have to either be naughty with some form of card reader,
or record from your SKY STB via analogue.

For Freeview satellite you want two sat cards - it will cover every mux.
For freeview terrestrial you want three tuners to cover every mux. I can
lend you a usb dvb-t device or a pci satellite device if you want to try it
out.

I use freeview terrestrial via two hdhomeruns (each has two tuners).

The EPG is good, pretty reliable and reasonably accurate.
