that was great, I now have it working. Though I have to take apart the .asoundrc 
file to stop it using the analogue as well as I need that for another use.

I had tried most things before but the thread referenced above gave me the clue 
that you enter the audio device manually ALSA:both (case sensitive) I also found 
that I had to reboot after changing the .asoundrc before it worked.
