Hmm, some old stuff in there.

In the PC is a 9500 and the only display the TV.

When I was first setting up the box I had a monitor connected and the
card was an 8800GT (which died).

I will correct the card, thanks!

What I'd do for 1 TV is delete the xorg.conf references to screen1 and device1 and tickle it up from there.
