Well that didn't work. Failed to read/write the disk with my P3 under 
Linux, and worked really slowly on my P4 with windows. Took the plunge 
and replaced my P3 with a new(er) celeron MB with SATA. Still getting 
that going properly (another story) but at least the disk is great :-)
