[mythtvnz] Does the HVR 900 have an LNA setting orsomethingsimilar?

I have the older model and there isn't a LNA. In general it will work with
a reasonably low signal.

If you want to check your signal strength try dvbtune with the correct
mutiplex frequency. Here is my output for the three auckland multiplexes
