[mythtvnz] MythTV upgrade, bleeding code, ready for tester

I have exactly the same symptoms. I can watch recorded tv fine on the HD tuner, but have problems watching live tv. 8 times out of 10 it will get the "encountered problem" message. If I persist it will usually eventually come up.

Fortunately I also have a Nova S, and I have no problems with this tuner. This is why I watch live tv off Satelite, and use the HD tuner for recording. Also note, my frontend also runs under a different user than my backend, all on the one machine, but I don't see how it can be permissions given my problems.

Frontend and backend are on different machines so that counts out your
second option. You are correct in the first instance that the backend
and frontend are not running as the same user. Backend is running as
mythtv user while frontend is running as another. This user belongs to
the mythtv group and so should have read access to the recordings folder
(new recordings seem to have read access for all anyway).

What I do have is symlinks. The default location for the recordings in
myth is /var/lib/mythtv/recordings but I have that location symlinked to
another location. The ownership and group are both set to mythtv user
with read/write/execute permissions for owner and group. I didn't think
that there was any problem with this set up as the backend is currently
recording programs to this location happily and I can watch any existing
recording from the same location.

I don't know maybe there is some subtle difference in the way the live
tv recordings are handled...

Here is another output. This time it went to the first channel under
livetv but died on channel change.
