[mythtvnz] Win-TV Nova-S card not working

I'm still wrestling with getting my Win-TV Nova-S on ubuntu 9.10
recognised.  It seems like it might be this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/164257 and this
later reoccurrence on 2.6.31-14
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/458304

So assuming this is difficult to fix on this kernel, what suggestions do
you have for me to get my system working again?  Pick another kernel?
