This is truly bizarre, the drivers seem to keep pulling modelines out of 
their ass.

I've attached my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files to this email. As you can 
see, there is NOTHING in xorg.conf resembling a modeline for, say, 
1440x900, or 1600x1200, but X merrily loads into it anyway (and my 
panasonic 42", expecting 1360x768, promptly goes black and sulks.)
