 You may need a link to the runlevel directory.

My system boots into runlevel 2 so 

/etc/rc2.d/S30lirc should be a link to /etc/init.d/lirc

If you lirc installed it as a package this should already done.

Otherwise look closly at the config files. On my deb system, the config files 
are in /etc/lirc
