It will take a lot less disk too. 4 channels is probably going to use 
somewhere around 200GB for 24 hours.

Recording with something like dvbstream makes sense but you'd still need to do 
something with epg and file splitting. Ug.

There's VDR which I know nothing about which may be worth looking into?
