Because the internal player probably doesn't have the kitchen-sink approach 
to codec packs the way that mplayer does. Myth's internal player is best 
for mpeg and mpeg2 stuff, though.

I run a Win32 port of mplayer on my main box, and the only time I've ever 
had to install codecs is when I'm encoding stuff.
