[mythtvnz] HVR-4000, LIRC and channel changing time

I've just hooked up my HVR4000 to a sat dish and am finding that when 
channel changing between transponders I get the "A problem was 
encountered displaying video".  When I try again the I'm assuming that 
this a timeout problem which can be changed in the backend setup?

Being an unfortunate soul that bought a 29" CRT non-widescreen TV at 
great expense, is there a way of getting myth to detect and display the 
right aspect ratio for TV 1,2 ,3 etc (4:3) rather than hitting the "W" 
key each time to get the right one?

I'd also like to use the nice Remote control that I got with my card but 
haven't had any luck getting LIRC to work
I have loaded the lirc_i2c module, it shows up in dmesg, but doesn't 
describe the input device ie HVR4000.
A look in /proc/bus/input/devices shows it as being an available input.  
/dev/lirc is there, but mode2 says no such device...
