    Thursday 23rd September 2004, 19:00

Solaris Dynamic Tracing: the observability revolution

    Jon Haslam
    Software Engineer, Sun Microsystems

The talk follows the UKUUG AGM which starts at 18:15 and will be in
Lecture theatre 2, Cruciform Building, University College London,
Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT. Non-members are welcome.

Dynamic Tracing (DTrace) is one of the hot new technologies in the
next revision of Sun's Operating System, Solaris 10. DTrace provides
the ability to generate concise answers to almost arbitrary questions
about the behaviour of your systems, from the top of the application
through to the bottom of the kernel. We'll take a look at the basics
of the architecture and the D language before seeing DTrace in action
with a demonstration of it's abilities.

You can read more about DTrace on Jon's blog:
        http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/jonh

If nothing else, read this one for a really neat and useful application:
        http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/jonh/20040719#dtrace_tcp_by_volume

After the talk we will look for food in a nearby restaurant
(the Spaghetti House in Goodge Street is most likely)
