The Rise of Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs)

Bala Amavasai, Global Technical Director at Databricks

Thursday, 26 October 2023

Lecture starts at 19:30, tea/coffee available from 19:00.

Generative AI creates new outputs from existing data. It has taken the
world by storm. Large language models (LLMs), a subset of generative
AI, are AI models that are very effective at performing various
language-related tasks. LLMs are able to generate predictions about
the meaning of text, such as sentiment classification, topic
modelling, or text summarisation. They are also used in applications
such as machine-translation, question-answering, and decision-making
systems. This talk will discuss the evolution of LLMs, its importance
and its implications. We will also address the practical application
of LLMs and how they can be built and delivered using open-source
tools.

Venue - Van Emden Theatre, Edith Morley Building, Whiteknights Campus,
University of Reading
