The challenges of large scale asset management in rail applications
Daniel Shayler - Thales UK Research & Technology
The current UK rail infrastructure consists of around 16,000km of
railway track, supported by thousands of additional assets, and
costing millions of pounds to manage and maintain. The entirety of
this network of equipment requires continuous condition monitoring,
which itself generates a massive, safety critical management
challenge.
In this talk I will discuss some of the practical challenges faced
when managing such a large network of varied asset types. Additionally
I will describe some of the data that is commonly used to calibrate
different assets and the methods that are currently being developed to
improve the efficiency and accuracy of this process.
This event is free of charge and open to all, with refreshments at
19.00, lecture at 19:30.
