EC3 Massive Open Online Courses, Karsten Lundqvist and Richard Mitchell
Thursday 22 October 2015 - 19.00 for 19.30
Begin Programming and Begin Robotics are two of the MOOCs developed at the University of Reading which run on the FutureLearn platform. As of October 2015, BP has run five times with over 125,000 enrolments, BR has run now twice with almost 19,000 enrolments. Begin Programming teaches you to program in Java a game on a mobile device; Begin Robotics explores robotics, their anatomy, their control and behaviour including haptics.
This lecture describes some of the novel content and approaches taken for these two courses, and the impact they have had on the teaching of 'normal' courses, such as 'flipping the classroom' and interactive web pages to aid learning. The potential for follow on small private online courses (SPOCs) is also considered.
Programme
Lecture starts at 19:30, but tea/coffee and biscuits will be available from 19:00
Reasons to attend
Begin Programming and Begin Robotics are two of the MOOCs developed at the University of Reading which run on the FutureLearn platform which have been taken by over 100,000 people. Come and hear about the experiences and thoughts of their Lead Educators.
