Seamless aeronautical networking through integration of data links, radios and antennas

Mark Chatterton, Thales Research and Technology

Thursday 23 October 2014 19.00 for 19.30
Palmer Building, University of Reading RG6 6UR

In the first 25 years of the 21st century, European air traffic is
expected to approximately double and current aeronautical
communication systems become saturated. The air transport industry
faces a complex growth challenge, as airlines are requesting vast
increases in communication capabilities. Meanwhile, equipment
lifecycles are shortening and the increasing complexity of
aeronautical communication systems is becoming a major concern.

The SANDRA project addresses the integration of currently separated
aeronautical networks(e.g. VDL2, ATN, SwiftBroadband) into one unique
architecture. The project aimed to design, implement and validate
through in-flight trials a flexible and integrated communications
system - a key enabler for broadband passenger and cabin communication
services in the future

This event is free of charge and open to all, with refreshments at
19.00, lecture at 19:30.
