But we don’t make fire engines - Working with the Fire and Rescue
Service to Develop Technology for Crisis Management

Service)

Thursday 24 April 2008 at 19:30

Cantley House Hotel, Milton Road, Wokingham

Light refreshments available from 19:00-19:30

Recent events such as 9/11, the 7/7 London bombings, the Buncefield
Oil Depot explosion and the severe flooding events of 2007 have made
the role played by the UK Emergency Services increasingly diverse and
more complex. To support their ever changing operations, there is a
real need for cutting edge technology for use in crisis management and
incident response.

To produce useable technologies for crisis management, a good
understanding is needed of the reality of crisis management, and of
the roles and experiences of the people involved. To achieve this,
industry needs to work closely with the user community. This lecture
will focus on work being carried out by Thales Research and Technology
with the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, highlighting how industry
and public sector agencies can work together to develop appropriate
technologies.

If you want to know more, come along. All are welcome and no ticket is
required. Simply turn up on the night. For more details please contact
Dr Richard Mitchell at rjmitchell at theiet.org, or 0118 378 6790
