Improving collaboration for split-site teams

Tim Masterton, Doug Watson

Thales Research & Technology UK Ltd

Thursday, 24 January 2008 at 19:30

Palmer Building, The University of Reading

Light refreshments available from 19:00-19:30

Thales Research and Technology (UK) has developed a Virtual
Collaboration System to enable split-site teams to hold multi-way
project meetings. It provides sufficient quality to replace a
significant proportion of the usual face-to-face meetings required by
engineering development teams, using standard broadband connections
to the internet. As a result, the amount of travelling is reduced and
team members can meet as often as required. This talk will describe
the work being undertaken at Thales, the University of Surrey and
some evaluation sites to realise the goal of a simple to use,
combined audio, video and data collaboration system to replace some
of the Thales group travel requirements. It will discuss the use of
existing technologies and standards, the human factors and marketing
issues with gaining acceptance for this way of working and plans for
using new technologies from a variety of partners to enrich the
overall user experience.

If you want to know more, come along. All are welcome and no ticket is
required. Simply turn up on the night. For more details please contact
Dr Richard Mitchell at rjmitchell at theiet.org, or 0118 378 6790

Directions: Enter the University at the main entrance from the A327
Shinfield Road. Follow the road until until it bends right, when you
turn left and almost immediately right. Go straight on when the road
goes to the left and park near the Palmer Building. See also
