The Maidenhead Advertiser printed the letter below in last Thursday's
edition. I was prompted to email the letter by newspaper reports that
'hundreds' of houses would soon be built on the derelict Mill Lane site. I
thought It to be important that members should know the exact procedures
which must be followed to afford the public opportunities to comment on any
proposals for the development of the site before the proposals are approved
by the Planning Authorities and before any new building may start.

I shall circulate the draft Development Brief when it is published for
consultation.

Many Taplow residents are concerned by your report "Skindles project closer"
that "plans to build hundreds of houses at the old Taplow Paper Mill and
Skindles Hotel site are a step closer". Several suggestions made by the
community organisations being consulted are still to be considered before
the final draft of the Development Brief required by the SBDC Core Strategy
is ready to be submiitted for acceptance by the Council. That draft will
then be published for a six week public consultation. Any suggestions by
members of the public for further changes will be considered before a final
version of a Development Brief is adopted as a planning policy document.

Only then will a planning application conforming to the requirements set out
in the Development Brief be accepted for consideration. The number of houses
the applicant proposes to build will be a component part of what is certain
to be a complex application covering the various other requirements likely
to be stipulated in the Brief to meet the Core Strategy objective of a
"comprehensive conservation-led regeneration" of this precious Green Belt
area. Under the normal planning procedures that application will be
published for a four week public consultation period before an analysis by
the Council Officers to assist the consideration of the application by the
Council Planning Committee..
