Yes, I'd been impressed by them too.

esp. e.g. http://ithacafreesoftware.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118

"Long Island.. there aren't any groups specifically..
[advocating/discussing/using/demoing/teaching/fighting for] free
software" - tips.

But the difference to us here is, for any kind of support they can call
on the FSF (USA) directly, within whose regional orbit they reside.

Perhaps the reason for 's**t-uphill' locally/regionally for GNU is
precisely because this larger framework is non-existent here - which
makes it our primary responsibility to build one, in *helping_others*.

Don't be confused or deterred by the fragmentary "Linux culture", which
is too often about *helping_yourself*, even indirectly, in my experience.

And adding weight to the argument for upgrading the 'floss'-fibre, click
on the IFSA "Support SFLC" link to www.softwarefreedom.org - "..legal
representation and other law-related services to protect and advance FOSS".

cheers & hth
